Apostille
People and authorities in other countries may not be able to determine the authenticity of your documents as they may not know the seal, stamp or authority of the issuer. As a result, states/countries require that the origin of a foreign public document must be certified by an official who is familiar with the document. It is against that background that the procedure known as “legalisation” was developed. Authentication therefore generally refers to the process of verifying or ‘authenticating’ the origin of a public document. A public document issued in South Africa often has to be apostilled or legalised (officially “authenticated” when it is going to be used in a foreign country.
